Recreating the DSN File

This is the last resort of trying to establish a link between Business Interactive and the database.

You must be logged in as an administrator into any workstation that runs Windows.

1. Go into the Control Panel, and launch the Data Sources (ODBC) utility (usually this can be found under Administrative Tools).

2. Select the File DSN tab and click the "Add" button

Example

3. You will be presented with a list of drivers. Select "Driver do Microsoft Access (*.mdb)" and click the "Next" button

Example

4. You will be asked for the name of the database link file. It is best to browse for the link provided with the installation (dblink.dsn) that can be found in the DATA sub-directory of the installation directory. Once you have found it, select it and click the "Save" button.

5. Click "Next" to continue. Check the details are correct and then click "Finish"

6. You now have to associate the database with the link. Click the "Select" button. Again it is best to browse for the database (biunit1.mdb) which can be found in the DATA directory. Select it and click OK.

Example

7. Click "OK" to create the association. A confirmation window will appear, asking if you want to proceed with overwriting the DSN file. Click "Yes" to confirm.

8. That's it. The link will have been recreated. Click "OK" to exit the utility.

You may have to do this procedure again for the Unit 2 database link (unit2dblink.dsn), please remember to associate the link with the correct database (i.e. the database that the link associates with is the Unit 1 database if you want to use the same students and classes that you previously set up).

The Unit 3 database link is called "unit3link.dsn", and the link for Unit 4 is called "unit4link.dsn"

Distribution of the Link

If you have done a Low Bandwidth Installation then you may have to copy and paste the recreated links into the data directories of each unit on every workstation that you intend to run Business Interactive on.
